About me

My name is Maura Radicioni and I am a conference interpreter, translator and university teacher. My working languages are English, German, French and Italian.

I have been working as an interpreter and translator for over 20 years. In 1997 I graduated from the from the school of interpretation and translation at the University of Bologna, Forlì Campus (ex-SSLMIT, now DIT - Department of Interpretation and Translation). I then studied at the University of Innsbruck (Institut für Translationswissenschaft) and was further trained on specialized lexicons and terminology at EURAC, the European Academy Bozen. I provide the following services in my working languages in both Italy and abroad: conference interpreting, consecutive interpreting, chuchotage (whispered interpreting), business negotiations and dialogue interpreting, as well as translations and end-to-end language consultancy. I have worked as a free-lance interpreter at congresses, conferences, seminars, business meetings, and conventions, and have translated and interpreted for companies, Professional Congress Organizers (PCO), government agencies, universities and international organizations. I have interpreted for the FAO and the OECD, and have worked as an external translator for the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Translation since 2009, for the Translation Centre for the Bodies of the European Union in Luxembourg since 2014, and for the Council of Europe since 2017. Along with my professional free-lance career, I have taught for and done research at universities and specialized schools: teaching and mentoring in the 3-year degree as well as in the 2-year specialization courses with the faculty at the University of Bologna, Forlì campus, at the DIT - Department of Interpretation and Translation for more than 15 years; teaching interpreting at the University of Macerata,  Department of Humanities, School of Linguistic Mediation for three years; and teaching English as LSP at the Università Politecnica delle Marche, School of Medicine, for two years. I am currently doing research with the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting (FTI) at the University of Geneva, where, since February 2018, I have been working on a project that deals with interpreting within humanitarian organizations as part of a Ph.D. interpreting research program. Because I strongly believe in the importance of lifelong learning, I take regular training courses on subjects that are connected to my professional and academic interests. Since 2003 I have been a qualified member of the Italian association for interpreters and translators AITI (Associazione Italiana Traduttori e Interpreti), with certified abilities as a conference interpreter and translator. Furthermore, I am UNI 11591:2015 certified (Professionals operating in the field of translation and interpretation). I put my professional abilities and my experience at the service of my clients, so that their events are assured success, and their communication needs are fully met. 6 things about me

Passion and enthusiasm mark everything I do. For me, the glass is always half full, and goals are reached through perseverance, and always with a smile.

My opinion on social media? They’re great for sharing and participating, awful if only used to show off or feign emotions or replace character with pretention.

Music and foreign languages are the perfect mix! Because real interpreters are very musical, and because you learn English by listening. How? Singing along with Sting and Bruce Springsteen! My life from a quasi-accountant to a music and foreign language enthusiast.

As a child I loved imitating different dialects; could this have been the first inkling of a marked propensity for foreign languages? Since then, it was a short leap from dialects to my present and future working languages.

Guida per salvarsi la vita viaggiando (a Lonely Planet guide, how to save your life by traveling) hits the bull’s eye for me when I travel: meet, understand and interpret.

I have a lot of curiosity, and I love challenges. Why else would I start studying again for a Ph.D. in a hot topic like humanitarian interpretation? Because learning is wonderful, and anyone who doesn’t keep up is lost.

Word of mouth

  • Maura is a superlative language consultant. We, as Marchet, worked with her several times and we always appreciated her skillfulness as interpreter, reliability as professional and smartness. We highly recommend her!

  • Maura is a professional interpreter and translator in English and German. Her pronunciation is excellent in both languages. She is also efficient and strives for operational excellence. Her work is thorough and always in time. Besides that, she is also a nice lady with an intelligent conversation. I hope she can get a chance to do some work for your company or a company within your network.
    Hendrikije Kapteijn
Non-executive director, supervisor and riskmanager finance industry
  • Maura worked for the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development at two different times - 2010 and 2013 - helping with English-Italian and Italian-English interpretation during week-long meetings in Italy. Her standards of quality have been high and consistent, even after days and days of meetings. Beyond being highly professional, she is also a pleasant person to work with. I definitely recommend her for interpretation services on economics and business matters, topics that she masters very well.

  • Maura is an extraordinarily skilled interpreter. She worked at two scientific congresses we organized: one about electromagnetic fields (Potenza Picena, Macerata, Italy, 2013) and one about an environmental disease, Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (Chamber of Deputees, Rome, 2015). She managed both of them with competence and the result was a very high standard quality of interpretation both English to Italian and Italian to English. The lecturers were so positively impressed by her work that they wanted her contact details for future collaborations. She contributed immensely to the success of our events.
